Clinical, Endoscopic and Pathological Characteristics of Colorectal Polyps in Children and Adolescents

Background and Aim: Polyps of the gastrointestinal tract (GI) are apparent protrusions from mucosal surface. The majority polyps is asymptomatic goes unnoticed; however in symptomatic situations, most common clinical manifestations include abdominal discomfort, rectal prolapse, intestinal blockage, GI bleeding. present study intended to assess colorectal characteristics based on clinical, pathological, endoscopy children adolescents. Patients Methods: This retrospective was conducted 78 adolescents (<18 years) with Gastroenterology Department DHQ Teaching Hospital Mufti Mahmood Memorial Hospital, Dera Ismail Khan January 2020 September 2022. Participants were assessed for various variables such as age, gender, colonoscopy-related signs symptoms, polyp identification, symptom’s onset duration between colonic polyp’s endoscopic diagnosis symptoms onset, family history. Polyp’s involved: frequency, histology, morphological type, distribution. SPSS version 26 used data analysis. Results: overall mean age 8.6±2.4 years an range 3 18 years. Of total polyps, there 48 (61.5%) male 30 (38.5%) females. prevalent symptom bleeding 94.6% (n=74) cases 13.8±16 months. Juvenile found 76.9% (n=60), out which 96.7% (n=58) left colon. prevalence Solitary multiple familial adenomatous polyposis, Peutz-Jeghers syndrome (PJS) 10.3% (n=8), 6.4% (n=5), 3.8% (n=3), 2.6% (n=2) respectively. Polyposis more likely have old diarrhea, anemia, pain. patients experienced partial blockage acute episodes, pain, emergency laparotomy, resulting increased morbidity.
